Do you remember what you were doing 30 years ago? Our colleague Oliver Carstensen remembers that time very well, as that was when he started his career at Martens. He’s now celebrating his anniversary – so it’s high time we interviewed him for our blog!

How long have you been working at Martens, and how did you come to join the company?

I started 30 years ago as a machine setter in the rod network belt department and later moved into sales. Over the years, I have taken on and further developed many different areas of responsibility. Today, I share responsibility for quality management, product management and marketing.

What do you enjoy most about your work at Martens?

The direct contact with customers, the wide variety of topics and the opportunity to work continuously on a diverse range of technical and organisational challenges.

How has Martens changed in recent years?

There has been significant investment in staff, technology and processes. New areas such as 3D printing, AI applications and robotics are constantly being added and are continually assessed and developed further.

How does this long-standing anniversary feel to you?

It doesn’t feel that long to me at all, because day-to-day work constantly brings new tasks and challenges. Routine plays a rather minor role here.

Are there any events from this period that have particularly stuck in your memory?

Definitely the global assignments carried out directly at customers’ production sites. But I also have fond memories of the discussions at trade fairs, as well as the installation work and technical coordination visits at customers’ premises.

What sets Martens apart?

We give our all for our customers, even on small projects. Every project is handled conscientiously, with solutions thoroughly reviewed and closely coordinated with the customer. Personal contact is a key factor in our success.

Why would you recommend Martens as an employer?

Because of the excellent career prospects. Anyone who shows personal commitment and is willing to take on responsibility is given the chance at Martens to develop further and take on additional responsibilities.

How do you most like to spend your free time?

I prefer to spend it with my family and the dogs. My other hobbies include fishing, classic cars, paramotoring, and looking after my house and garden.
